Make sure you are reading about the right IIPM
Four letters, two very different histories. The institute this page covers is the Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing in Lucknow: an autonomous, non-profit society — incorporated under Act XXI of 1860, the Societies Registration Act — running since 1998, with membership of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association. A separate, long-since-defunct organisation — the Indian Institute of Planning and Management — once made those same four letters infamous. The two share initials and nothing else. Our standing advice applies with extra force here: read the full name on the prospectus, the admission letter and the fee receipt, and expect the word pharmaceutical on all three.
On scale, we pass along the institute’s own account rather than vouching for it: it states 27+ years of operation, 10,000+ alumni spread over 20+ countries, and a catalogue of 30+ specialisations. Those are its figures, not ours.
One disclosure before the detail: this site's network enrols students through programmes of its own, run with IICT and with IIPM — reason enough, we think, to hold this page to the very checklist we point at every other institution.
Every tier, timed in months and priced in full
Most colleges put one flagship course in the window. IIPM instead publishes a graduated set, so a reader can match commitment to certainty: test the field for four months, or sign up for the two-year flagship. Here is the whole ladder as the institute prices it — totals, not instalments.
| Programme | Runs for | Fee in full | Fast-track option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diploma | 4 months | ₹5,500 | — |
| Advance Diploma | 6 months | ₹7,500 | — |
| PG Diploma | 1 year | ₹11,500 | — |
| MBA — masters-level diploma | 2 years | ₹25,000 | 1 year · ₹27,500 |
| MBA, dual specialisation | 2 years | ₹26,000 | 1 year · ₹28,500 |
| Executive MBA | 1 year | ₹20,555 | — |
Eligibility climbs with the rungs. The calendar and the fee are published; the entry qualification for each tier is set by the institute and is the one thing this table cannot settle for you. Before money moves, get written confirmation of which rung your existing education admits you to, and run the paperwork through our document checklist and before-you-pay checks.
What fast-track means, precisely. On either MBA variant the fast-track option compresses two years of study into one and adds ₹2,500 to the total. The compression changes your calendar, not the name of the award you finish with. It suits people who already carry sector experience and want the credential sooner; it is a heavier reading load for anyone starting cold, which is worth being honest with yourself about before choosing it.
An award in the institute’s own name answers to its own gate
Entrance exams exist mainly to ration seats that some statutory body supervises — which is why a medical seat cannot be had directly anywhere in India. A society that issues its own diploma sits outside that machinery: nobody rations its intake for it, so it writes its own admission policy. IIPM’s policy is record-based review across every tier. That is the whole story behind the phrase “no entrance exam” — ordinary institutional design, not a side door.
Three checks survive the missing exam, and they are the ones that actually matter: the qualifying education the tier demands, genuine documents that verify cleanly, and the institute’s own rules on sessions and intake. A route without a test is still a route an unqualified file can fail. If an offer arrives that skips even these, treat it with the suspicion our guide to verifying an admission offer recommends.
Institute diploma on one path, university degree on the other
Now the distinction that decides whether any of the above fits your purpose. IIPM’s flagship “MBA” is a masters-level diploma issued in the institute’s own name. This is not our gloss — the institute’s own website bills the programme as an autonomous masters diploma. It is not a degree under UGC recognition, and it does not pose as one.
Separately, IIPM facilitates enrolment into Government-recognised university programmes, delivered in distance and online mode and UGC/DEB compliant. On that path the university is the awarding body and the institute is the facilitator — two roles that should never blur into one, on this campus or any other. Which path you need follows from who will eventually read your certificate:
- A statute is the gatekeeper — a government post, or further study that names a UGC degree as its condition: only the university route serves. The institute’s diploma, however good, is the wrong instrument there by definition.
- An employer is the gatekeeper — the credential is weighed with your experience and the institute’s standing, and sector-specific depth can count in your favour.
If a society-issued diploma sounds second-class on its face, one piece of history is worth holding onto: for over half a century the most coveted certificate in Indian management — the IIM PGDM — was precisely that, a diploma from institutes constituted as societies, since the Act empowering IIMs to grant degrees only came into force in 2018. Format alone settles nothing; candour about who awards what settles a great deal.
A pharma-first catalogue with a round-the-clock AI tutor
Where a general management school spreads itself thin, IIPM’s specialisation list leans deliberately into medicine’s business side — Pharma Marketing, Pharma Business Management, Hospital Management, Health Care Management, Production — with generalist lines such as Finance, HRD, Retail, Insurance, Foreign Trade, CRM, Services Marketing and AI for Business around them. The institute puts the full count above thirty.
Study support has one feature worth naming: an AI Professor — an AI tutor, trained per subject, on call at any hour inside the student portal, with a student app on both Android and iOS. For a distance learner in a sales territory far from Lucknow, an always-awake tutor is a more practical promise than a monthly contact class.
Frequently asked questions
Does any IIPM tier require an entrance test?
No. From the four-month Diploma up to the Executive MBA, admission runs on a review of your record. Each rung still carries its own entry qualification, set by the institute — ask, in writing, which tier your existing education admits you to before paying anything.
Is the IIPM MBA a UGC degree?
No, and the institute’s own website is upfront about it, billing the programme as an autonomous masters-level diploma. A UGC-recognised qualification through IIPM comes only via its separate facilitation route, where a Government-recognised university — not the institute — awards the degree.
What exactly does fast-track change?
The calendar and the fee — not the name on the award. The two-year MBA diploma compresses to one year at ₹27,500 in total; the dual-specialisation variant compresses the same way at ₹28,500. Either way that is ₹2,500 above the standard-pace figure.
How do I confirm I am dealing with the right IIPM?
Read the full name on every document. This institute is Lucknow’s Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing — a non-profit society established in 1998, holding membership of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association. A defunct “Planning and Management” body once shared the acronym; it is a different entity entirely, so the word pharmaceutical should appear on your prospectus, letter and receipt.
